The SPIRIT OF THE LORD is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord ~ Luke 4:18-19

CHURCH PLANTING PROJECT

For many years AWYesu has trained leaders to serve in existing churches of various denominations in Mozambique. To date we have seen a minimum of 1000 students graduate from our two Bible Schools. We have now started on a church planting vision, particularly in rural Mozambique where there is no church or where we see a special need.

Our strategy is in selecting graduates who wish to serve God on the mission field. These young men are trained in the Ambassadors for Christ (Mozambican Missionary) course.

They are equipped to enter a region with the gospel, winning souls to Christ through the cell church concept. This means small groups gathering under a tree or in a house. Once the number reaches 20 - 25 adults in regular attendance, a simple church structure is built with the local people participating and taking responsibility for their church. Our emphasis is on community; the church building also being used for community projects such as primary health care, extra school classes/craft for children.

In due course young men from the church are invited to attend the Bible College to receive training so they can return as leader or pastor in their home church.

We present the Pomene Church as an example of what we are planting in various regions of the Sofala, Zambezia, Niassa and Nampula provinces at this time. Team members from Afrika wa Yesu back up the church plants with the Jesus movie, seminars and conferences to ensure follow up.

Apostolic Oversight of the Churches is being taken by Pastor Armando Nicolao Jo who will be moving from Inhaminga to Nampula in August this year to plant a church in the city there. This will give him and his family more direct access into the predominately Muslim regions of Northern Mozambique.

Pomene

Our fishermen family visited Pomene several times during the 60’s, before the old hotel was built, to catch the BIG ONES. Remembering the most amazing childhood holidays imaginable, we returned to find Pomene still the most beautiful place on the Mozambique Coast.

Noting that there was no church at all, we determined to set up a place of worship and community for the people. Two young men, graduates from our Bible School are permanently resident at the church. Their purpose is to be available to the community for family and spiritual help; to minister to and teach the children about Jesus, and to help them advance in their schoolwork. They are also equipped to teach health care and hygiene to help prevent sickness, as well as treat minor complaints such as stomach disorders, eye infections, small cuts and wounds.

You are welcome to visit and participate within this ministry and in the lives of the people of Pomene. Some folk have asked what the needs are within the community. We have put together a list for those who are interesting in being involved.

Members of our team visit Pomene periodically to check on the work and encourage the two men who have committed to stay here full time.
